Turkey: The Land of Unique Geo-Strategic Position

Turkey, officially the Republic of Turkey, is a contiguous transcontinental parliamentary republic largely located in Western Asia with the portion of Eastern Thrace in Southeastern Europe. Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west; Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the south. The Mediterranean Sea is to the south; the Aegean Sea to the west; and the Black Sea to the north. The Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles demarcate the boundary between Thrace and Anatolia; they also separate Europe and Asia. Turkey's location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia makes it a country of significant geostrategic importance.The Capital is Ankara and largest city is Istanbul. The Currency is Turkish lira (TRY).

1. The first church built by man (St. Peter’s Church) is in Antioch (Antakya).The seven churches mentioned in the book of Revelation, in the Bible are all in Turkey.


2. Istanbul is the only city in the world built on two continents.


3. St. Nicholas, also known as Santa Claus, was born in Patara.


4. Turkey has more masjid per capita than any other country.


5. Although 99% of Turks are Muslim, Turkey has a rich Christian heritage.


6. Turkey introduced coffee to Europe.


7. The Trojan War took place in Turkey. A wooden statue of the Trojan Horse sits on the site today.


8. While many people associate Tulips with Holland, the flower was actually introduced to Holland by Turkish traders in the later stages of the 16th century.


9.  Turkey is the first world hazelnut producer and exporter, with approximately 70% and 82% of the world`s production and export respectively.


10. The ancient real-life city of Troy is located on the northwest coast of Turkey, which is now known as Hisarlik.

Georgia: The Birthplace of The Wine

Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. The capital and largest city is Tbilisi. Georgia covers a territory of 69,700 square kilometers, and its population is almost 5 million. Georgia is a unitary, semi-presidential republic, with the government elected through a representative democracy. The Currency is Lari (GEL).

1. The ethnic Georgians call themselves Kartvelebi.


2. The period between 12th and 13th century is known as the Georgia’s Golden Age or Georgian Renaissance when the Kingdom of Georgia reached its peak both politically and culturally, under the reigns of David the builder and Queen Tamar.


3. The world’s deepest cave is the Voronya Cave in Georgia.


4. Georgia is considered as a transcontinental country as it spans more than one continent.


5. The Jewish community in Georgia is considered to be one of the oldest in the world.


6. Georgia is divided into two regions called the west and the east by a chain of mountains called the Likhi Range of mountains.


7. Georgia’s highest mountain is Mount Shkhara with an altitude of 5,201 meters (17,059 feet).


8. According to the world bank, Georgia also called as‘the number one economic reformer in the world’.


9. The law on a ban of smoking of tobacco didn't concern Georgia.


10. In Georgia, in high rise buildings you have to pay for the lifts.

Armenia: The 1st Nation To Adopt Christianity

Armenia, officially the Republic of Armenia, is a mountainous country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located in the north of Western Asia, it is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, the de facto independent Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the south. The Capital and largest city is Yerevan. The Currency is Dram (AMD).

1. Armenia is home to the world’s longest non-stop double track cable car.The cable car runs for a total of 5,752 meters, or 18,871 feet.


2. The country’s national symbol is Mt. Ararat, But Mt. Ararat is actually located in Turkey.


3. There are approximately 11 million Armenians (or of Armenian descent) worldwide, and only 3 million reside in Armenia.


4. Armenia is rumored to be the first to adopt Christianity in 301 A.D. The Kingdom of Armenia was the first state to adopt Christianity as its religion, in the early years of the 4th century.


5. Armenia has the world’s best apricots, considered to taste better than anywhere else in the world.


6. Lake Sevan, situated in the highlands of Armenia, forms one of the largest lakes in the world.


7. Armenia's Ararat Valley houses a huge underground lake.


8. The highest point in Armenia is formed by Mount Aragats (4090 m), which houses a dormant volcano.


9. Yerevan falls in Europe but doesn't come under Schengen Visa; visa is issued by Armenian embassy in India.


10. Tsaghkadzor is winter ski resort town near Yerevan.
