Denmark: The Happiest Country In The World

Denmark is a country in Northern Europe. The southernmost of the Nordic countries, it is located southwest of Sweden and south of Norway, and bordered to the south by Germany. Denmark forms part of the cultural region called Scandinavia, together with Sweden and Norway. The Kingdom of Denmark is a sovereign state that comprises Denmark and two autonomous constituent countries in the North Atlantic Ocean: the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Denmark proper has an area of 43,094 square kilometers, and a population of 5,668,743 (April 2015). The country consists of a peninsula, Jutland, and an archipelago of 443 named islands, of which around 70 are inhabited. The islands are characterized by flat, arable land and sandy coasts, low elevation and a temperate climate. The capital and largest city is Copenhagen. The currency is Danish Krone (DKK).

2. The world's smallest hotel is in Denmark. This cute one-room hotel over a coffee shop is in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. You’ll have to book early to get a night here!


3. The little mermaid bronze statue is one of the most famous landmark in Copenhagen! Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s story, the statue was given to city by Carl Jacobsen, a Danish brewer after he saw a ballet of the tale.


4. In Denmark, it rains or snows every second day.


5. Denmark is considered the “least corrupt” country in the world.

6. In Denmark, pornography can be purchased at the local petrol station.


7. Denmark actually has a place to surf called Cold Hawaii, and it is one of the best beaches in Scandinavia for surfing.


8. Denmark physically borders only one other country, Germany.

9. Copenhagen’s Stroget, at almost 2 miles (3.2 km) long, is the oldest and longest pedestrian street in the world.


10. Walt Disney visited Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen once and was so inspired that he decided to create something similar in America: Disneyland.


11. Denmark is the world’s biggest producer of ranched minks.


12. Dyrehavsbakken, or Bakken, located within Denmark's peaceful Dyrehaven, is the world’s oldest amusement park.
