Ukraine: The Center of The Europe

Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe. It has an area of 603,628 km2, making it the largest country entirely within Europe. Ukraine borders Russia to the east and northeast, Belarus to the northwest, Poland and Slovakia to the west, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south and southeast, respectively.


The territory of modern Ukraine has been inhabited since 32,000 BC. During the Middle Ages, the area was a key center of East Slavic culture, with the powerful state of Kievan Rus' forming the basis of Ukrainian identity. Following its fragmentation in the 13th century, the territory was contested, ruled and divided by a variety of powers, including Lithuania, Poland, the Ottoman Empire, Austro-Hungary, and Russia. A Cossack republic emerged and prospered during the 17th and 18th centuries, but Ukraine's territories remained divided until they were consolidated into a Soviet republic in the 20th century. It became independent in 1991 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The capital and largest city is Kiev. The currency is Ukrainian Hryvnia (UAH).

1. The third of the most visited McDonald's is situated in Kiev, near the railway station. This restaurant is always included in the list of the world’s most popular McDonald's.


2. The subway station ‘Arsenalnaya’ in Kiev has the biggest depth all over the world. It’s depth lasts 105 meters. It was one of the first stations, which were built in 1960.


3. The official Guinness world record: Ukrainians recently made the world’s largest glass of champagne – 56.25 liters.


4. Kiev-pechersk Lavra is one of the biggest Orthodox monasteries in the world. Trembita is the longest musical instrument in the world. It is a very long pipe played on by Hutsul ethnicity from the Carpathian Mountains.


5. Ukraine is one of the largest grain exporters in the world.


6. Ukrainians wear their wedding ring on the ring finger of their right hand instead of their left hand.


7. Khreshchatyk Street in Kiev is the shortest yet widest main city street in the world. Its length is 1.2 km.


8. The world’s heaviest aircraft is An-225 Mriya is created by the Kiev-based Antonov design bureau. The plane was designed to airlift space shuttles and rocket boosters, however is now carrying oversized payloads.


9. The oldest map known to scientists, as well as the most ancient settlement of Homo Sapiens were found in Ukraine, in the village of Mezhireche. They are 14.5 - 15 thousand years old. The map is cut out of the bones of a mammoth. The settlement is made of the same material.

Slovakia: The Heart of The Europe

Slovakia, officially the Slovak Republic, is a country in Central Europe. It has a population of over five million and an area of about 49,000 square kilometres. Slovakia is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. The largest city is the capital, Bratislava. Slovakia is a member of the European Union, Eurozone, Schengen Area, NATO, the United Nations, the OECD and the WTO. The official language is Slovak, a member of the Slavic language family.


The Slavs arrived in the territory of present-day Slovakia in the 5th and 6th centuries. In the 7th century, they played a significant role in the creation of Samo's Empire and in the 9th century established the Principality of Nitra. In the 10th century, the territory of today's Slovakia was integrated into the Kingdom of Hungary,[10] which itself became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire or Habsburg Empire. After World War I and the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Slovaks and Czechs established Czechoslovakia. A separate Slovak Republic (1939–1945) existed in World War II as a client state of Nazi Germany. In 1945, Czechoslovakia was reestablished. Slovakia became an independent state on 1 January 1993 after the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The currency is Euro (€)(EUR).

1. It is situated exactly in the heart of Europe.


2. More than six thousand caves have been discovered in Slovakia so far! Ochtinska Aragonite Cave  is the only one aragonite cave located in Europe and a huge 34 m high sinter column in Krasnohorska cave is even listed in the Guinness Book of Records.


3. The biggest cave complex is Demänovská jaskyňa in Low Tatras.


4. The picturesque village of Čičmany in Northern Slovakia has a status of world’s first reservation of folk architecture.


5. The capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, lies on the borders with Austria and Hungary. That makes the city the only one capital in the world that borders two independent countries.

6. The Danube, the longest river in Europe, runs through Slovakia over 22 km.


7. Sweet wine is the favorite beverage of the Slovakians.


8. Old medieval town of Levoča is a home of the highest wooden altar in the world. It is located in Church of St. James right in the historical centre of Levoča. 18,6 m high and 6 m wide altar was made without the use of a single nail!


9. The biggest volcanic lake is Morské oko (The Sea Eye).

The Czech Republic: The Castle Capital of The World.

The Czech Republic, is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the southeast and Poland to the northeast. The capital and largest city, Prague, has over 1.2 million residents. The Czech Republic includes the historical territories of Bohemia, Moravia, and Czech Silesia.


The Czech state was formed in the late 9th century as the Duchy of Bohemia under the Great Moravian Empire. After the fall of the Empire in 907, the centre of power transferred from Moravia to Bohemia under the Přemyslids. In 1004, the duchy was formally recognized as part of the Holy Roman Empire, becoming the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1212, and reaching its greatest territorial extent in the 14th century. The King of Bohemia ruled not only Bohemia itself, but also other lands, which together formed the so-called Crown of Bohemia, and he had a vote in the election of the Holy Roman Emperor. In the Hussite wars of the 15th century driven by the Bohemian Reformation, the kingdom faced economic embargoes and defeated five crusades proclaimed by the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church and organized mainly by the emperor and princes of the Holy Roman Empire. The currency is Czech Koruna (CZK).

4. The Charles University in Prague, founded in 1348, is the oldest university in Eastern Europe, and one of the oldest in the world in continuous operation.


5. The word robot was lifted from the play and short novel written by Karl Capek, a Czech playwright. The 1920 story was entitled R.U.R., which means Rossum’s Universal Robots.

6. The traditional welcoming is with bread and salt.


7. Christmas dinner in the country would not be considered complete without serving carp.


8. The Czech Republic is the number one beer drinking country in the world.


9. The Czech Republic has the largest castle complex in the world.

Germany: The Land of Poets & Thinkers Or The Holy Roman Empire

Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany is a federal parliamentary republic in western-central Europe. It includes 16 constituent states and covers an area of 357,021 square kilometers with a largely temperate seasonal climate. Its capital and largest city is Berlin. With 80.7 million inhabitants, Germany is the most populous member state in the European Union. After the United States, it is the second most popular migration destination in the world.



Various Germanic tribes have occupied northern Germany since classical antiquity. A region named Germania was documented before 100 CE. During the Migration Period the Germanic tribes expanded southward. Beginning in the 10th century, German territories formed a central part of the Holy Roman Empire. During the 16th century, northern German regions became the center of the Protestant Reformation. The capital and largest city is Berlin. The currency is Euro (€) (EUR).

2. There are over 300 different kinds of bread in Germany. There are also bread museums.

11. The land of poets and thinkers: or das land de dichter und denker; Bach, Beethoven and Goethe were all German, alongside composers Händel, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Wagner and R. Strauss. Some of the world's greatest German philosophers include Kant, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, and Heidegger.
